wdym way late? Its not his first solo, but rather his first solo in a pitts. Learning to fly a pitts is no easy task and at 19 years old that's impressive

Hi Leo, I'm Doc's Dad. It's tough to judge how many actual hours Doc had in total as he, like my other two boys have been 'flying' since they were young with me in GA airplanes. I would guess he had 70 real licensed hours or so. He got his ticket at 17 and has been busy with college and the like.

@@damiandiesel1 This is good info, I really want a Pitts. What plane you think will be best prior to Pitts. I have Super Decathlon time but only about 15 hrs.

I think if you have decent tailwheel skills, an S1C is a great entry into Pitts world. They land slower, are usually lighter and more docile . @@klmelj

Max soloed his first Pitts at 17, an S2A, not very extraordinary in the scope of things except for the fact that he grew up around planes but not around money. Going to the best for training at $400 or more per hour was never in the cards for us. He had to rely on good tailwheel skills, advice from experienced men , and a fair supply of testosterone, just like Curtis Pitts. We operate from a 1700ft narrow strip w/obstructions at each end (38M Cranland in Hanson Ma) . I've seen him wheel and 3 point with perfection and seen a few bouncers but I rate him extremely competent (as his Dad, subtract the pride and add some bias perhaps). The point I'm making to anyone interested is that it is a great luxury to be able to get specialized training from the best available , a luxury not available to all. But, a regular guy with sharp skills and desire can get by as well, and once you get alone with the plane, your learning curve accelerates upward at a rapid rate. Max and his younger brother Doc are living proof.

Yes, fuel injected. We get 147kts at 65% power. 21.0 inches 2360 rpm 8.5-9.5 gph.

@@Max50ww Prop rpm needs set higher, only turning 2550 at full rpm, but still climbs great.

Sorry about the first song, hard to find good un copyrighted material sometimes. They bounced the first one. I have seen 2 pitts canopies come off on TO that were unlatched, insurance co's no longer covers them.

Damian Frattasio Yes, same problem here in the UK. Hope you are still enjoying the ride. I can’t think of any other aeroplane I’d rather own or fly. Mine operates under a UK Permit to Fly and as such I’m able to carry out most of my own maintenance, guess similar to your Experimental class. Mine has the long undercarriage leg and symmetrical ailerons.

@@Marty43ful Sadly we just sold the S2A and bought an RV6 which is much more practical for us. We have owned and flew many Pitts models over the years. After flying single seat models the S2A was not as "stunning" but fun just the same and quite rewarding to master ( or shall I say aspire to master) I'd be willing to bet that you don't have many 17 year old Pitts pilots in the UK. Max is now 21 and finishing his last year in college as an engineering student, he has surpassed all of my expectations as a son and young man. He has amassed some good time in many different makes and models along the way as has his younger brother Doc who is wrapping up his private pilots training. These damn kids fly better than me ! If you ever visit the USA and are in the Boston area look us up and we will give you the arial tour!

Damian Frattasio You must be very proud of them both. My son never showed much interest in flying , although he had been up in the Pitts with me and done some Aeros himself. I also fly commercially and many years go gave him a jump seat ride, but afterwards told his mother that the most memorable part of the flight was the crew meal he ate! Ah well, he’s happy pursuing other avenues in life. Many thanks for the kind invitation. Made Sun and Fun last year and managed an hour with Jack Brown in a Cub. He is doing great, thanks for asking. We have been busy. Max is now 21 and finished his 3rd year at Mass Maritime (marine engineering with minor in facility engineering). He is now doing an internship for the summer on an oil tanker in the gulf of Mexico. He has been flying the RV4 and other planes with his limited time from college. His younger brother Doc, 16 soloed officially last Dec 27th on his birthday but his official training has been set back now due the fact that we lost the engine on the Warrior and need a crankshaft.
